Backflushing removes coffee residue from parts of the brewing system on compatible espresso machines. Check that your model supports it, then follow its cleaning procedure and the approved cleaner’s instructions.
Backflush only when your exact machine’s manual specifies it. A pressure-release sound or a general claim about valve type is not sufficient proof of compatibility. Use the prescribed cleaning disc or blind basket; never block an unsupported machine’s basket.
Use the cleaning disc or basket and espresso detergent specified for your machine. Detergent formats and doses differ. Do not substitute descaler, dishwasher tablets or household cleaners.
If your manual includes water-only backflushing, follow its pump-on times, pauses and repetitions. Let pressure release as instructed before removing the portafilter. Do not apply a generic timing cycle to every machine.
Use the dose on the compatible cleaner’s label and the machine’s cleaning program. Complete the specified clean-water rinse cycles. Some instructions also require a sacrificial espresso to be discarded. Smell alone cannot establish that rinsing is complete.
Clean accessible parts only as the manual permits, allowing hot parts to cool before handling. Replacement methods differ; use service support if removal or repair is not covered by the user instructions.
Follow your machine’s cleaning prompt or maintenance schedule and the approved detergent instructions. Usage affects frequency; daily and weekly are examples, not universal requirements.
