Milk residue can dry onto a hot steam wand and block the steam holes. Wipe and purge the wand after each use, following the machine’s instructions, and clean any deposits before they build up.
Purge the wand as directed by the machine manual before steaming. This clears condensed water that would otherwise dilute the milk. Point the outlet into the drip tray or another approved location, away from hands and bystanders. Follow the model’s routine for automatic steam wands.
After steaming, wipe the outside promptly with a clean damp cloth and purge as the manual directs. Treat the wand as hot, including parts that may look insulated. Use a separate clean cloth for milk residue and wash or replace it regularly. Do not leave milk to dry on the wand.
Dried milk residue can block steam holes, affect flavour and make the wand harder to clean hygienically. Wipe the outside with a clean damp cloth and purge as directed after each use. Replace or wash the cloth regularly. A deep clean does not replace this routine.
Follow the machine manufacturer’s cleaning schedule. Use a compatible milk-system cleaner at its labelled dilution and contact time. Remove the tip only if the machine’s instructions allow it, and soak approved parts as directed. Rinse all treated parts thoroughly with clean water, then perform the prescribed purge or rinse cycle before steaming milk. Do not intentionally draw cleaning solution into the boiler.
Let the wand cool and soften dried residue with a damp cloth. Use only a compatible milk-system cleaner, following its label and the machine manual; a stronger mixture is not automatically better. Avoid metal scrapers and do not enlarge steam holes. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning. If the tip remains blocked, stop using it and consult the manufacturer rather than forcing or modifying it.
